Section 10-6 - Revised Remove/Install Procedure for Door Trim Panel

1996 Buick Skylark
1996 Oldsmobile Achieva
1996 Pontiac Grand Am

This bulletin is being revised to update Step 8 in the "Remove or Disconnect" procedure. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 53-10-29 (Section
10 - Body).

This bulletin revises the removal and installation procedure for the door trim panel. Please add this procedure to Section 10-6 of the Service Manual.

Door Trim Panel

Figures 9 - 14 (Refer to Section 10-6 of the Service Manual)

Remove or Disconnect

1.

Front door upper trim panel by gently prying at side to disengage tabs and pull rearward.

2.

Buick & Oldsmobile - Front left door power lock and window switch bezel by engaging a small flat blade screwdriver to spring clip under rear of
bezel.

3.

Buick - Rear door power window switch by prying under bezel.

4.

Pontiac - Front/rear power door power lock/window switch bezel by prying under rear edge of the bezel after two screws are removed.

5.

Buick & Oldsmobile - Power door lock switch.

6.

Wire harness connectors.

7.

Manual lock slider knob by pulling outward to disengage from locking rod.

8.

Pontiac - Door inside handle escutcheon by pulling inside door handle to open position and gently disengage by pulling front of escutcheon
outward.

9.

Buick & Oldsmobile - Door inside handle escutcheon by rotating and pulling forward to slide over door handle.

10.

Reflector using a flat blade screwdriver.

11.

Pontiac - Front or rear door trim panel screw behind reflector and pull cup.

12.

Buick & Oldsmobile - Front or rear door trim panel screws, behind reflector, under armrest and behind door inside escutcheon.

13.

Window regulator handle, if applicable - refer to "Window Regulator Handle" in this Section.

14.

Door trim panel retainers using J 38778 - trim removal tool. Start at the bottom and gently pry inward separating trim from inner, thereby
disengaging all retainers from door inner.

15.

Door trim panel by lifting at pull handle and applying pressure in the outboard direction just beneath the beltline. Beltline pressure exerted at the
upper front and working rearward will disengage trim panel beltline hooks from door inner beltline slots.

16.

Disengage mirror switch from bezel by pushing on the side of mirror switch.
