Hazard Warning Switch: Recalls
Service Procedure
The following inspection/repair procedure will identify hazard lamp switches that require replacement. The inspection procedure requires actuation of
the hazard lamp switch and actual outside observation of the hazard lamp function from in front of and behind the vehicle.
1.
Activate hazard lamps by sliding hazard lamp switch (located on top of steering column) to the right.
The turn-signal/hazard lamp interior telltales should begin flashing.
2.
While standing outside and in front of the vehicle, observe the front turn-signal/hazard lamps for correct function (flashing on and off). If at least
one of the two front hazard lamps is flashing, the front hazard circuit is functioning normally.

If only one front hazard lamp is flashing, make necessary repairs to correct the non-flashing lamp.
Move to the rear of the vehicle and observe the rear turn-signal/hazard lamps for correct function (flashing on and off). If at least one of the two
rear hazard lamps is flashing, the rear hazard circuit is functioning normally.

If only one rear hazard lamp is flashing, make necessary repairs to correct the non-flashing lamp.
If, after any necessary bulb replacement and/or wiring repairs, all front and rear turn-signal/hazard lamps are functioning correctly (flashing on and
off), proceed to step 17 of the service procedure and install the campaign identification label.
If either the front or rear turn-signal/hazard lamps are not functioning correctly, proceed to step 3 of the service procedure (replacement of the
hazard/multifunction switch).

Remove Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (S.I.R.) fuse from fuse block.
4.
On "N" vehicles, turn two locking retainers and move the LH sound insulator panel to gain access to the S.I.R. connector.
5.
Remove connector position assurance (CPA) pin and separate the driver's side S.I.R. connector (yellow).
6.
On vehicles with tilt steering wheel, remove tilt lever by gripping firmly and turning counterclockwise.

If necessary, use locking pliers with a piece of rubber, such as a spark plug boot, between the jaws to aid in preventing damage to the lever
during removal.
7.
Remove the upper half of the steering column cover.
8.
Remove three (3) screws and remove the lower half of the steering column cover.
9.
Disengage electrical connectors from the hazard/multifunction switch.
10.
Position the new hazard/multifunction switch to the steering column and secure with top screw first, then bottom screw. Tighten to 4 Nm (2.9
Lbs.Ft). Re-connect electrical connectors.
11.
Re-install the lower half of the steering column cover. Secure with three screws. Tighten to 4 Nm (2.9 Lbs.Ft.)
12.
Re-install the upper half of the steering column cover (snap-in).
13.
Re-install tilt steering wheel lever by gripping firmly and turning clockwise.
14.
Connect driver's side S.I.R. connector (yellow). Install connector assurance (CPA) pin.
15.
On "N" vehicles, position and secure the LH sound insulator panel with two locking retainers.
16.
Install the S.I.R. fuse to the fuse block.
17.
Install the GM Campaign Identification Label.
