About Cadillac
Cadillac was founded in 1902 and named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the French explorer who founded Detroit; its crest is based on his coat of arms. In 1908 it became the first American car to win Britain's Dewar Trophy, by showing its parts were fully interchangeable, which gave it the slogan "Standard of the World". GM bought it in 1909, and it has been GM's luxury brand ever since.
Same car, different badge
- Escalade is built on the GM full-size SUVs, the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon Denali.
- DeVille and the front-drive Fleetwood of 1985–1992 share GM's front-drive C-body with the Buick Electra and Oldsmobile 98; the 1993–1996 Fleetwood shares its rear-drive platform with the Chevrolet Caprice and Buick Roadmaster.
- Eldorado shares the E platform with the Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado.
- Cimarron is a J-car, like the Chevrolet Cavalier.
