Alternator: Service and Repair
Alternator Mounting
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Alternator harness connector and battery charging wire on back of alternator. Heated windshield 3-phase connector and clip if equipped.
3. Release tension from drive belt and remove belt from alternator pulley. Do not remove belt from any other component pulleys.
4. Bolts, ABS ground strap, and alternator from vehicle.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Alternator and ground strap to mounting bracket with bolts. Tighten bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
2. Raise drive belt tensioner. Position drive belt over alternator pulley and release tensioner. Drive belt routing diagram is mounted on the right strut
tower in the engine compartment for reference purposes.
3. Alternator harness connector and battery charging wire to alternator output stud. Do not route battery charging wire so as to rest against cruise
control servo. Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
4. Negative battery cable and tighten bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
