Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Replacement
Left Side
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
4. Remove the glow plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
5. Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold from under the vehicle.
8. Clean the sealing surfaces on the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
9. Clean the threads on the exhaust manifold bolts.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the exhaust manifold from under the vehicle.
2. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 35 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Install the glow plugs.
6. Connect the negative battery cables.
Right Side
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
2. Remove the air cleaner box and intake duct.
