Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Retainer Replacement

REMOVAL

1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Remove the flywheel. 
3. Remove the oil pan. 
4. Remove the retainer screws and nuts.
5. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer.
6. Remove the gasket.
7. Clean the gasket surfaces on the block and the seal retainer.

INSTALLATION 
 
NOTE:  Whenever the seal retainer is removed, a new retainer gasket and crankshaft rear oil seal must be installed.

1. Install the gasket to the block. Do not use sealant to hold the gasket in place.
2. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer.
3. Install the screws and nuts.

Tighten the screws and nuts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). 

4. Install the oil pan. 
5. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal.
6. Install the flywheel. 
7. Install the transmission.
