Water Pump: Service and Repair

WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Coolant from the radiator. See: Cooling System/Service and Repair
2. Upper fan shroud. See: Cooling System/Fan Shroud/Service and Repair
3. Drive belt. See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair
4. Fan, fan clutch, and pulley from the coolant pump. See: Cooling System/Radiator Cooling Fan/Fan Clutch/Service and Repair
5. Lower radiator (outlet) hose and heater hose from the coolant pump.
6. Bolts.
7. Water pump from the engine block.
8. Clean mating surfaces on the water pump and the engine block.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Water pump to the engine block.
2. New gaskets.
3. Bolts.

Tighten bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

4. Lower radiator (outlet) hose and heater hose to the water pump.
5. Water pump pulley, fan, and fan clutch to the coolant pump hub.
6. Drive belt.
7. Upper fan shroud.
8. Start the engine and run, with the radiator cap removed, until the upper radiator hose becomes hot (thermostat is open).
9. Add coolant to the radiator until the level reaches the bottom of the filler neck.

Engine must be running at idle speed.

10. Radiator cap, making sure the arrows line up with the overflow tube.
11. Check for leaks.
