Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel Feed and Fuel Return Pipe Purge
FUEL FEED AND FUEL RETURN PIPE PURGE PROCEDURE
1. Pump Primer located on top of the fuel filter 30 times or until stiff.
2. Attempt to start and run the engine. If the engine does not start, repeat step 1.
3. Allow to run for 5 minutes at idle.
4. Check for fuel leaks.
5. Clear all engine diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Fuel Filter Assembly
FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Drain the fuel from the fuel filter housing. Refer to Water-in-Fuel Draining Procedure.
2. Disconnect the fuel heater and water-in-fuel sensor harness connectors.
3. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
4. Disconnect electrical and vacuum lines from:

EGR valve vent solenoid
^
EGR valve vacuum sensor
^
EGR valve solenoid
5. Remove bolts retaining sensor/bracket assembly.
6. Remove the fuel filter bracket-to-valve cover bolts.
7. Remove the filter/heater element housing.
8. Remove the fuel filter bracket from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
9. Spin off the fuel filter from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
10. Inspect the fuel filter and replace if necessary.
