Water Pump: Service and Repair
WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT (L65)
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the coolant from the radiator.
2. Remove the fan shroud.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Remove the fan and fan clutch.
5. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
6. Remove the following vacuum pump components:
6.1.
The mounting bracket nuts
6.2.
The bolt securing the vacuum pump bracket and the generator
6.3.
The vacuum pump and the bracket
7. Remove the power steering pump. Do not disconnect the hoses. Lay the pump aside.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the bolts, the studs, the water pump backing plate and the water pump.
10. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
11. Disconnect the bypass hose from the water pump.
