Late in 1984, the Berlinetta instrument wiring was revised to prevent electronic displays from flickering while cranking. This change inadvertently
eliminated the "Brake" warning light bulb check during cranking. In 1985, the panel was again revised to restore the normal bulb check. Wiring
schematics for the three designs are shown in Figure 1.
The warning function of the "Brake" light remains operational with all three designs. However, the bulb check function in the second design is performed
by applying the parking brake at the time the engine is started.

Customers will be notified by letter of this change in the bulb check function.

Dear Chevrolet Owner:

Records available to Chevrolet Motor Division indicate you are the owner of a 1984 or 1985 Camaro Berlinetta.

This letter is written to further clarify owner manual instructions regarding the operation of the brake system indicator lamp on your Berlinetta.

The brake system indicator lamp on your Berlinetta is a red lens on the instrument panel which lights the word "BRAKE." The lamp will light to alert a
driver in the event the parking brake has not been released, or if there is a loss of pressure in the front or rear brakes.

"BRAKE" indicator lamps are normally designed to illuminate briefly whenever the engine is started as a check that the bulb is functioning correctly.
Unlike other GM vehicles, the bulb check feature on your Berlinetta operates only if the parking brake is applied and the ignition switch is in the "RUN"
position.

Chevrolet recommends you apply the parking brake whenever you park your Berlinetta. To check the brake system indicator lamp, apply the parking
brake and turn the ignition switch to the "RUN" position. The lamp should stay lighted until you release the parking brake. By following this procedure
you will be sure the brake system indicator lamp bulb is working properly so it will alert you in the event of a brake system problem.

If the indicator lamp does not light when the parking brake is applied and the ignition switch in the "RUN" position, you should have the bulb replaced.
