Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments
Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Adjust
Non-Adjustable (Without Slots) Type
The throttle position sensor is not adjustable. The normal closed throttle position voltage is between 0.40 and 1.25 volts, and normal wide open throttle
position voltage is approximately 5.0 volts. If these limits are not in specification, check for freedom of throttle movement, and accelerator pedal
interference from carpets and other obstructions. If the problem is not corrected, replace the TPS.
Adjustable (With Slots) Type
NOTE: Not all TPS sensors are adjustable.
1.
Install three jumper wires between TPS and harness connector or use a "Scan" tool.
2.
With ignition "ON," use a digital voltmeter connected to terminals "A" and "B," or dark blue and black wire terminals. Adjust TPS to
specifications. See SPECIFICATIONS for voltage reading.
3.
When voltage reading is satisfactory, tighten the retaining screws and and remove the voltmeter and jumper leads. Reconnect the TPS connector.
4.
If proper voltage reading cannot be obtained , replace TPS sensor.
