Torque Converter Clutch: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
Converter Shudder
1.
Internal torque converter damage.
2.
Converter clutch shift valve stuck.
3.
Oil pump converter clutch apply valve stuck.
4.
Restricted oil pump oil passage.
5.
Crack in oil filter body or restriction in filter neck.
6.
Oil filter O-ring seal cut or damaged.
7.
Low oil pressure or engine not properly tuned.
8.
Turbine shaft O-ring cut or damaged.
9.
Turbine shaft retainer and ball assembly damaged.
No Torque Converter Clutch Apply
1.
12 volts not being applied to the transmission.
2.
Defective outside electrical connector.
3.
Defective inside electrical connector, wiring harness or solenoid.
4.
Solenoid shorted or incorrectly grounded.
5.
Incorrect or damaged pressure switches.
6.
Internal converter damage.
7.
Oil pump converter clutch apply valve stuck or incorrectly installed.
8.
Oil pump converter clutch apply valve retaining ring incorrectly installed.
9.
Oil pump to case gasket incorrectly installed.
10.
Oil pump orifice cup plug clogged.
11.
Oil pump solenoid O-ring seal cut or damaged.
12.
Oil pump orifice cup plug missing from cooler in passage.
13.
High or uneven oil pump body to cover bolt torque.
14.
Converter clutch shift valve or throttle valve stuck.
15.
Turbine shaft O-ring seal cut or damaged.
16.
Turbine shaft retainer and ball assembly plugged.
No Torque Converter Clutch Release
1.
Oil pump converter clutch apply valve stuck.
2.
Internal torque converter damage.
3.
Solenoid grounded.
