Remove or Disconnect

1. Battery negative cable.
2. Air cleaner.

Drain the radiator.

3. Throttle body assembly.
4. ECM engine control harness and lay aside.
5. Upper radiator hose at thermostat housing and heater hose at intake manifold (12).
6. Thermostat housing and gasket.
7. Wires and hoses as necessary.
8. Fuel pipe clips at AIR pump bracket and intake manifold (12).
9. Accelerator and TV cable bracket.

10. Spark plug wires at distributor cap.
11. EGR valve.
12. EGR solenoid valve.
13. Distributor cap.

Mark position of the rotor.

14. Distributor.
15. Coil and bracket.
16. Coolant temperature sensor.
17. Generator brace nuts and brace, if equipped.
18. Air conditioning compressor brace.
19. Intake manifold bolts (14) and studs (13).
20. Intake manifold (12) and gaskets (16).

Clean

Gasket and seal surfaces on intake manifold (12), cylinder block, and cylinder heads (17) with degreaser.

Remove all loose RTV sealer.

Install or Connect

1. Gaskets (16) on cylinder heads (17).

Apply a 5 mm (3/16 inch) bead of RTV sealer, part number 1052289 or equivalent, on the front and rear of the cylinder block.

Extend the RTV bead 13 mm (1/2 inch) up each cylinder head (17) to seal and retain the gaskets (16).

2. Intake manifold (12).
3. Intake manifold retaining bolts (14) and studs (13).
Tighten

Bolts (14) and studs (13) in proper sequence first to 14 N.m (10 lb. ft.) then to 47 N.m (35 lb. ft.).

4. ECM engine control harness.
5. Coolant temperature sensor.
6. Distributor.

Align rotor with mark.

7. Distributor cap.
8. Coil and bracket.
9. Spark plug wires at distributor cap.

10. Accelerator and TV cable bracket.
11. Fuel pipe clips at AIR pump bracket and intake manifold.
12. Wires and hoses as necessary.
13. EGR valve.
