A pop, rub, or racheting noise may be experienced on some 1982-86 Cavaliers. This condition may be caused by the front strut shield convolutes
contacting the strut jounce plate during suspension travel. Refer to the illustration.

The 1987 strut shield is more pliable and may be installed on prior year models to repair this condition. The new shield is available for 1982-87 Cavalier
models as a bumper and shield assembly, part no.. 22533136.

NOTICE:

Strut shield noise should not be mistaken for a louder "squawk" noise that may occur from the front stabilizer bar bushings. Refer to Dealer
Service Bulletin 86-53 (Section 3C) dated April 1986.
