1.
Remove engine from vehicle as described under ``Engine, Replace.''
2.
Remove rocker arm cover, then loosen rocker arm stud nuts and pivot rocker arms clear of push rods.
3.
Remove distributor and fuel pump or vacuum pump, if equipped.

Remove push rod cover, push rods and valve lifters.
5.
Remove alternator, alternator lower mounting bracket and engine front mount bracket assembly.
6.
Remove oil pump driveshaft and gear assembly.
7.
Remove front pulley hub and front cover assembly.
8.
Working through holes in camshaft sprocket, remove two camshaft thrust plate retaining screws.
9.
Pull camshaft and gear assembly from engine block. Use care not to damage camshaft bearings.
10.
Reverse procedure to install. When installing camshaft, align crankshaft and camshaft valve timing marks on gear teeth, Fig. 14. The valve
timing marks does not indicate TDC compression stroke for No. 1 cylinder for use during distributor installation. When installing the distributor,
rotate engine until No. 1 cylinder is on compression stroke and the camshaft timing mark is 180 degrees from valve timing position shown in Fig.
