Ball Joint: Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support vehicle, then place jack stands under suspension.

2.

Lower vehicle slightly so weight of vehicle rests on jack stands, then remove wheel assembly.

3.

Install drive axle seal protectors. These protectors should be used any time service is performed on or near drive axle. Failure to use them
may result in interior joint or seal damage.

4.

Remove pinch bolt, then ball joint from steering knuckle.

5.

Drill out three rivets retaining ball joint. Use a 1/8 inch drill to make a pilot hole through rivets. Finish drilling rivets with 1/2 inch drill bit.

6.

Loosen stabilizer shaft bushing assembly nut, then remove ball joint from control arm.

7.

Reverse procedure to install, torquing bolts/nuts to specifications.
