ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Effective with 1985 production, the Chevette 1.6L L4 engine will use a new "one-piece" timing belt sprocket and spacer. The new "one-piece" sprocket
and spacer will be available in a service kit, P/N 14090950, from WDDGM. This kit should also be used to service 1977 thru 1984 models. The kit will
contain a sprocket and spacer, P/N 14076378, bolt, P/N 14076332, and a label, P/N 14076356.
The replacement procedures are covered in the 1985 Chevette Shop Manual, Section 6A1.
CAUTION: When the front cover is installed, aligning tool J-26434 must be used to properly center the cover seal on the crankshaft. Failure to use this
tool may result in a subsequent oil leak.
To ensure that the threads of the crankshaft pulley bolt hole are not damaged while drilling a broken bolt, the use of a drill guide,
J-34984-2 is recommended. A dowel pin washer, J-34984-3 is required to ensure that the dowel pins are not damaged during installation of
the sprocket and spacer.
Failure to apply 122 N-m to 136 N-m (90 to 100 foot pounds) of torque to the crankshaft pulley bolt may cause a failure of bolt and/or
pulley. This will require holding the crankshaft to prevent its rotation while tightening the bolt.
