Bulletin No.: 08-07-30-048
Date: December 11, 2008
Subject:
Engine Miss or Shudder Feel After Shifting into Reverse or Drive (Reprogram ECM)
Models:
2005 Chevrolet Colorado
2005 GMC Canyon
Equipped with 3.5L Engine (VIN 6 - RPO L52) and 4L60E Automatic Transmission (RPO M30)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a brief engine miss that may be experienced when the transmission is shifted into reverse or drive. This miss may be
described as a shudder condition and is more likely to occur if the vehicle is still moving in the reverse direction when the shift is made or with a high
throttle input. If monitored with a Tech 2, it may be noted that a few engine misfires are present during the condition.
Cause
This condition is the result of a torque limiting feature to prevent driveline damage.
Correction
Important:
Verify that the 12-volt battery has a battery charge of 12 to 16 volts. The battery must be able to maintain a charge during programming. Only
use approved Midtronics 165-PCS charger or equivalent to maintain proper battery voltage during programming. The J2534 MDI will
reprogram the modules in less time than the Tech 2(R) scan tool.
1.
Check for any history DTCs. Verify the code and repair as necessary.
2.
If there are no stored DTCs, reprogram the engine control module (ECM) using SPS with the latest software available. Refer to the Service
Programming System (SPS) procedures in SI. Make sure your Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.
