1.
Remove engine from vehicle as previously described.
2.
Drain engine oil, then remove oil filter.
3.
Remove valve lifters and engine front cover as described previously.
4.
Remove oil pump drive.
5.
Remove timing chain and camshaft sprocket as previously described.
6.
Remove camshaft thrust plate to engine block retaining bolts and the thrust plate, Fig. 5.
7.
Remove camshaft from engine block. Use caution when removing camshaft not to damage bearings.
8.
Reverse removal procedure to install. Prior to installing camshaft, lubricate camshaft bearings with engine oil and camshaft lobes with GM E.O.S.
1051396 lubricant or equivalent. When installing camshaft, align crankshaft and camshaft sprocket timing marks, Fig. 5.
