Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
Harmonic Balancer
CAUTION The inertia weight section of the Harmonic Balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber sleeve. The removal and installation procedures
(with proper tools) must be followed or movement of the inertia weight section on the hub will destroy the tuning of the Harmonic Balancer.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
Tool required:
^ J 24420-B Harmonic Balancer Remover.
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Serpentine belt cover and belt.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Inner fender splash shield (right side).
5. Balancer retaining bolt.
^ Have an assistant hold flexplate from turning.
6. With J 24420-B installed on balancer, turn puller screw, and remove balancer.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
Tool required:
^ J 29113 Harmonic Balancer Installer.
1. Coat Timing Cover seal contact area (on balancer) with engine oil.
2. Apply sealant to key and keyway.
3. Place balancer in position over key on crankshaft.
4. Pull balancer onto crankshaft.
Assemble
^ J 29113 onto crankshaft.
5. Pull balancer into position and remove tool from balancer.
6. Balancer retaining bolt.
^ Have an assistant hold flexplate from turning.
Tighten
^ Balancer retaining bolt to 105 Nm (77 ft. lb.)
7. Inner fender splash shield.
8. Serpentine belt and belt cover.
9. Negative battery cable.
