1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2.
Remove auxiliary drive belt and tensioner.
3.
Remove alternator with wiring connected and position aside.
4.
Loosen alternator bracket.
5.
Remove power steering pump and position aside.
6.
Remove idler (if equipped).
7.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove inner splash shield.
8.
Remove flywheel cover from transaxle, then using torsional dampener tool No. J-24420, remove damper.
9.
Remove starter, then the oil pan.
10.
Disconnect radiator hose at water pump, then the heater hose from cooling system fill pipe.
11.
Disconnect bypass and overflow hoses.
12.
Remove water pump pulley.
13.
Remove plug wire shield at water pump.
14.
Remove canister purge hose.
15.
Remove front cover attaching bolts, then the front cover.
16.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean all parts in suitable solvent.
b. Apply sealer, GM 1052080 or equivalent to bolts as shown, Fig. 5.
