STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL
Model and Year:
1990-91 CORVETTE
If difficulty is noted in the removal of the steering wheel on 1990-91 Y-cars when using the correct special tools, J-1859-03 (steering wheel puller) and
J-38720 (puller side screws) it is suggested that the alternative method of using these tools be tried as indicated below:
1.
Install wheel puller and side screws, insuring side screws are shouldered out on steering wheel hub.
2.
Back out each side screw one (1) revolution from the shouldered out position and retighten wheel puller center screw.
3.
Alternately tighten each side screw 1/4 turn.
NOTICE:
TIGHTENING SIDE SCREWS MORE THAN A 1/4 TURN AT A TIME MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE STEERING WHEEL.
Utilizing the above procedure will generate a rocking force on the wheel and may assist in disengaging wheel from the shaft.
