CABALLERO & EL CAMINO
Column Shift
1.
Place shift lever in ``Reverse'' position and ignition switch in ``Lock.''
2.
Raise vehicle on a hoist.
3.
Loosen shift control rod swivel lock nuts. Pull down slightly on 1/R rod attached to column lever to remove any slack and then tighten clevis lock
nut at transmission lever, Fig. 4.
4.
Unlock ignition switch and shift column lever to ``Neutral.'' Position column lower levers in ``Neutral,'' align gauge holes in levers and insert
gauge pin.
5.
Support rod and swivel to prevent movement and tighten 2---3 shift control rod locknut.
6.
Remove alignment tool from column lower levers and check operation. Then place column lever in ``Reverse'' and check interlock control.
