Removal Procedure

1. Remove the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement   (See: Lifter / Lash Adjuster/Service and Repair).
2. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (V8)   (See: Starting and Charging/Starting System/Starter Motor/Service and Repair)Starter

3. Install the J-44643 - tool (2) in order to hold the flywheel (1).
4. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement   (See: Timing Components/Timing Cover/Service and Repair).
5. Remove the oil pump drive gears and crankshaft reluctor. Refer to Oil Pump Replacement   (See: Engine Lubrication/Oil Pump/Service and

Repair).

6. Using J-26900-12 - indicator (1) and J-26900-13 - base (2), measure the camshaft end play.
