Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Shift Control Cable Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Shift the transmission to 4th gear.
3. Remove the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Console/Service and
Repair/Front Floor Console Replacement).
4. Lift up the cable retainers.
5. Disconnect cable ends from the shift control assembly, noting the location for assembly.
6. Disconnect the cable ends (1) from the transmission shift levers, noting the location for assembly.
7. Remove the shift cable (2) from the transmission cable bracket.
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair).
9. Remove the shift cable attachment nut from the underbody.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Remove the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding /
Trim/Dashboard / Instrument Panel/Service and Repair/Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement).
12. Position the drivers side front carpet aside. Refer to Floor Panel Carpet Replacement (See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding /
Trim/Carpet/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement).
