THIS SERVICE UPDATE INVOLVES VEHICLES IN DEALER INVENTORY ONLY AND WILL EXPIRE APRIL 15, 2008.
Purpose
This bulletin provides a service procedure to replace the intermediate steering shaft on certain 2008 model year Chevrolet Impala vehicles that have a
slip-joint outer sleeve that was not manufactured properly. The intermediate steering shaft on some of these vehicles may be susceptible to a slip-stick
condition. With this condition, the driver may feel or hear a clunk when making a slight turn or when applying or releasing the brakes.
This service procedure should be complete on involved vehicles currently in dealership inventory as soon as possible but no later then April 15, 2008, at
which time this bulletin will expire.

Important:
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS). Not all vehicles within the
above breakpoints may be involved.

1.
Remove the intermediate steering shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in SI.
2.
Install the new intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in SI.
