Poor starting (good cranking speed but limited ignition) and excessive smoke after start up can be the result of a restricted fuel supply.
This can be misdiagnosed as a glow plug system condition. This restriction most likely will be from a plugged fuel filter but can also be
caused by a pinched or kinked fuel line. After the engine warms up, it generally will run satisfactorily. If the restriction gets progressively
worse, top speed and performance will be affected also.
Even though the filters may have relatively few miles, purchase of dirty fuel can plug the filters in a short time. A check of the fuel lines
for restrictions should also be made.
