EFE Heater: Testing and Inspection
1. With the ignition "ON" and engine OFF, disconnect the connector from the heater.

For Single Wire Heater Connect a test light between the harness connector pink wire and ground, then ground ECM test terminal.

For Dual Wire Heater Connect a test light between the two heater terminals, then ground ECM test terminal.
3. If test light is on:
a. Remove ground from ECM test terminal and note test light.
b. If test light is off, measure the resistance of the heater.

If heater resistance is less than 2 ohms, the heater is OK.

If heater resistance is greater than 2 ohms, replace heater.
c. If the test light is ON, disconnect wire from terminal "B" at relay and observe test light. If light is ON, replace the relay. If light is 0FF, check
for a wire shorted to ground between relay terminal "B" and ECM terminal "6". If this circuit is not shorted to ground, replace the ECM.
4. If test light is OFF after performing Step 2, proceed as follows:
a. Ground terminal "B" at relay and observe test light.
b. If test light is ON, check for open in wire to ECM terminal "6". Also check resistance of relay coil. If relay coil resistance is under 20 ohms,
replace relay and ECM; if circuit and relay resistance are OK, check for faulty ECM connections.
c. If test light is OFF, connect a jumper wire between EFE relay terminals A and F.
5. Observe test light.
a. If test light is ON, connect a jumper wire between relay terminals A and C and observe test light.
b. If light remains ON, replace defective relay; if light is OFF repair open in circuit to relay terminal C.
c. If test light is OFF after jumping relay terminals A and E, connect the test light between relay terminals A and E and ground and observe test
light.
d. f test light is ON, repair open in wire from relay terminal to heater connection on single wire heater or ground wire on dual wire heater.
e. If test light is OFF, repair open in wire from relay terminal to ignition.
