Warning
With a pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature in the radiator can be considerably higher than the boiling point of the solution at
atmospheric pressure. Removal of the surge tank cap, while the cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes the solution to boil instantaneously
with explosive force. This will cause the solution to spew out over the engine, the fenders, and the person removing the cap. Serious bodily injury may
result.
Removal Procedure
1. Partially drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Service and
Repair/Cooling System Draining and Filling).
2. Remove the surge tank from the surge tank bracket.
3. Reposition the heater outlet hose clamp at the heater core using the J 38185.
4. Remove the heater outlet hose from the heater core.
