Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair

Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure

Caution: Relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing fuel system components in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury.

After relieving the system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing the fuel lines or connections. In order to reduce the chance of
personal injury, cover the regulator and the fuel line fittings with a shop towel before disconnecting. This will catch any fuel that may leak out. Place the
towel in an approved container when the disconnection is complete.

Notice: Do not perform this procedure if the engine is hot. Unburned fuel entering the catalytic converter could damage the convener catalyst.

1. Loosen the fuel filler cap in order to relieve fuel tank pressure.

2. Remove the circuit opening relay (1) located at the lower left side of the driver's compartment, above the kick panel.
3. Crank the engine and allow the engine to stall.
4. Crank the engine for an additional 3 seconds in order to assure relief of any remaining fuel pressure.

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

5. Disconnect the negative battery cable in order to avoid re-pressurizing the fuel system.
6. Install the circuit opening relay.
7. Tighten the fuel filler cap.

J 42982 Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter.

J 43178 Prizm Fuel Line Quick Connect Separator.

1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
