Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
3 Speed-MB3 Automatic Transmission

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

CAUTION:  Refer to Battery Disconnect in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
3. Remove one retaining bolt (1) and the VSS (2) from the transaxle.
4. Inspect the VSS O-ring for cuts or damage. Replace as necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Tools Required

J 36850 Transmission Assembly Lubricant

1. Apply J 36850 to the VSS O-ring. 
2. Install the VSS (2) into the transaxle case. Secure the VSS with the retaining bolt (1).

Tighten the VSS bolt to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).

NOTICE:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Connect the VSS electrical connector.
4. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
