Subject:
Delayed Upshift when Cruise Control is Engaged
(Replace Cruise Control Module)
Model:
1998 Chevrolet Prizm with MS7
(4-Speed Automatic Transmission)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a delayed upshift when the cruise control is engaged. During cruise control operation, if the transmission downshifts to
maintain the selected speed while climbing a grade, it may not upshift immediately when the grade is crested. This condition does not exist with the
MXO 3-speed automatic transmission.
Cause
The condition may be due to the cruise control module software being programmed incorrectly, allowing for a delayed upshift after cresting a grade.
Correction
A new cruise control module (P/N 94859069) has been released to replace the old module (P/N 94857285) for use in vehicles with the MS7 4-speed
automatic transmission. The old module may continue to be used to service vehicles with the 3-speed automatic or the 5-speed manual transmission.
Refer to the procedure specified in the 1998 Prizm Service Manual for replacement of the cruise control module.
