Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Repair Instructions
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
2. Remove the serpentine drive belt.
NOTICE: Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings
of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.
3. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose fitting and the power steering gear inlet pipe from the pump.
4. Remove the hose clamp and the power steering fluid reservoir hose from the pump.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the RH front tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in TIRES AND WHEELS.
7. Remove the 6 bolts and the RH lower engine splash shield (1).
8. Remove the following from the vehicle:

The two power steering pump bolts
^
The two power steering pump nuts
^
The power steering pump and pulley
9. Secure the power steering pump and pulley in a soft jawed vise.
10. Remove the pulley nut and the pulley from the power steering pump.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application.
The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require
thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors)
on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may
damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you
avoid damage to parts and systems.
1. Secure the power steering pump in a soft jawed vise.
2. Install the pulley to the power steering pump. Secure with one nut.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering pulley nut to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the following to the vehicle:

The power steering pump and pulley
^
The two power steering pump bolts
^
The two power steering pump nuts
Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump nuts to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the RH lower engine splash shield (1). Secure with 6 bolts.
Tighten
