SUBJECT:
NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE MOUNTING PROVISION 
(INSTALL LICENSE PLATE BRACKET)

MODELS:
1994 S SERIES TRUCKS

CONDITION:

Some early production trucks, having no mounting provisions for a front license plate bracket, were shipped to states requiring front plates.

CAUSE:

No mounting provisions were provided at production.

CORRECTION:

In order to rectify this situation, the following procedure should be performed:

1.

Remove the air deflector located on the bottom of the front bumper.

2.

Using the appropriate tool, cut out the two rectangular shaped templates located on the middle back side of the deflector.

3.

Reinstall the front bumper lower air deflector less the two center most deflector-to-bumper retaining bolts and their U-nuts. These remaining
U-nuts will be attached to the two lower projections of the license plate bracket.

4.

Obtain the applicable license plate bracket:

-

If YC5 equipped (utilizes a front bumper rub strip) use P/N 15672292.

-

If non YC5 equipped (no front bumper rub strip) use P/N 15672291.

5.

Use the bolts remaining from step # 3 to secure the bottom portion of the bracket to the bottom of the bumper bar by positioning the two lower
bracket projections through the air deflector cut-outs that were made in step # 2.

6.

Seat the bracket firmly against the bumper. Using the two upper holes in the bracket as a guide, take a centering punch and mark two areas on the
bumper (or rub strip if equipped) that will coincide with the holes in the bracket.

7.

Using a drill with a 10 mm bit (approximately 25/64"), drill one hole where each of the center punch marks were placed.

8.

Clean the drilled area of debris chips and use a suitable cleaning solvent which does not leave a residue. Apply RTV (Aerobic Sealant) in the
holes. 

Note: 

Enough sealant should be applied so that bracket fastener installation will push the sealant through the hole.

9.

Obtain two push-type fasteners, P/N 15959832, and now secure the upper portion of the bracket to the bumper bar.

Parts are expected to be available at GMSPO by October 10, 1993.
