S10/T10 Blazer 4WD V6-4.3L VIN W (1997)
1. Rear wheels and drums.
2. Shock absorber nuts and washers.
3. Shock absorbers from the anchor plates.
4. Bolts and retainers from the pinion flange.
Important: It is essential that the positions of all driveline components relative to the propeller shaft and axles be observed and accurately
reference marked prior to disassembly. These components include the propeller shafts, drive axles, pinion flanges, output shafts, etc. All
components must be reassembled in the exact relationship to each other as they were when removed. Specifications and torque values, as well as
any measurements made prior to disassembly, must be followed. Mark the propeller shaft and the pinion flange.

Secure the propeller shaft up and out of the way so as not to put unnecessary stress on the universal joints.
5. Brake pipes at the axle housing.
6. Brake pipes at the backing plates.
7. Propeller shaft.
8. Parking brake cable(s).
9. Nuts and washers.
10. Axle Vibration Dampener (if equipped).
11. U-bolts and anchor plates.
12. Vent hose from the axle housing.
A. Move the axle from above the springs.
B. Lower the axle from the vehicle using the hoist.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Axle into the vehicle using a hoist.
2. Vent hose to the axle housing.
3. U-bolts and anchor plates.
4. Nuts and washers.

Tighten nuts to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
5. Brake pipes to the backing plate.
6. Parking brake cable(s).
7. Brake pipes at the axle housing.

Bleed the brake system.
8. Propeller shaft.

Line up the previously made marks on the propeller shaft with the marks on the pinion flange.
9. Retainers and bolts to pinion flange.
-
Tighten bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
10. Shock absorbers to the anchor plates.
11. Nuts.
-
Tighten nuts to 84 Nm (62 ft. lbs.).
12. Rear drums, tires and wheels.
13. Refill axle housing. Add lubricant to a level within 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) of the filler hole.
