Thermostat: Service and Repair

Remove or Disconnect

1. Coolant from radiator.
2. Bolts, nuts, studs (as used).
3. Thermostat housing outlet.
4. Gasket.
5. Thermostat.

Clean
^

All parts and sealing surfaces.

Install or Connect

1. 3 mm (1/8 inch) bead of RTV sealer GM P/N 1052289 or equivalent to the groove on the coolant outlet sealing surface.
2. Thermostat.
3. New gasket (if used).
4. Thermostat housing outlet.
5. Bolts, studs and nuts (as used).

Tighten
^

Bolt and stud to 28 Nm (21 lb. ft.).

6. Coolant in the radiator.

Inspect
^

For leaks at the sealing surface after starting the engine.
