INSPECT

Ball stud threads for damage.
^
Ball stud seals for excessive wear.
CLEAN
^
Threads on the ball stud.
4WD Pitman Arm
INSTALL OR CONNECT
TOOLS REQUIRED:
^
J 29193 Steering Linkage Installer (12 mm).
1. Pitman arm on to pitman shaft of steering gear. Line up the marks made at removal.
TIGHTEN
^
Pitman arm nut to 250 Nm (184 lb. ft.).
2. Pitman arm washer and nut.
3. Steering gear to frame of vehicle.
4. Relay rod to the pitman arm ball stud. Make sure the seal is on the stud.

Tighten J29193 or J29194 to 62 Nm (48 lb. ft.) to seat the tapers. Remove the tool.
5. New relay rod prevailing torque nut to the pitman arm ball stud washer.
TIGHTEN
^
Nut to 108 Nm (79 lb. ft.).
6. Oil filter pipes to the crossmember bracket.
7. Steering linkage shield.
^
Lower the vehicle.
8. Intermediate shaft. Line up the marks made at removal.
9. Slide the intermediate shaft cover over clamp.
