Camshaft: Service and Repair
Camshaft Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the grille.
2. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) condenser.
3. Remove the valve lifters.
4. Remove the timing chain and sprocket.
5. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts.
6. Remove the camshaft retainer.
7. Install three 8 - 1.25 x 100 mm bolts into the camshaft front bolt holes.
8. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft out of the engine block.
9. Remove the bolts from the front of the camshaft.
10. Clean and inspect the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft and Bearings Cleaning and Inspection.
Installation Procedure
1. Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft
bearings.
Apply lubricant to the following components:

The camshaft lobes
^
The camshaft bearing journals
^
The camshaft bearings Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.
2. Install three 8 - 1.25 x 100 mm bolts into the camshaft threaded bolt holes.
