Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
1985-88 EXC. 1987-88 EFI MODELS
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Raise and support vehicle.
3.
Remove exhaust pipe at manifold.
4.
Remove lower heat shield bolt.
5.
Remove air pipe at manifold.
6.
Remove air conditioning belt.
7.
Lower vehicle and remove air compressor lower adjusting brace.
8.
Remove spark plug wires.
9.
Remove oxygen sensor wire from sensor and block.
10.
Remove exhaust manifold hot air shroud.
11.
Remove exhaust manifold.
12.
Reverse procedure to install.
1987-88 EFI MODELS
1.
Remove turbocharger as outlined under ``Turbocharger, Replace.''
2.
Remove exhaust manifold attaching bolts, then exhaust manifold.
TURBOCHARGER
REPLACE
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Drain cooling system.
3.
Remove hood.
4.
Remove front grille.
5.
Remove intercooler.
6.
Remove radiator hoses.
7.
Remove radiator fan motor coupler.
8.
Remove front upper member.
9.
Remove A/C condenser.
10.
Remove radiator.
11.
Remove front bumper from damper flange.
12.
Remove exhaust pipe bolts.
13.
Remove compressor.
14.
Remove turbocharger cover.
15.
Unclamp oxygen sensor wire.
16.
Remover turbocharger side cover.
17.
Remove lower exhaust pipe support bracket bolt.
18.
Remove upper exhaust pipe together with lower exhaust pipe.
19.
Remove air outlet pipe.
20.
Remove air inlet hose clamp bolt on cylinder head.
21.
Remove air inlet pipe.
22.
Remove oil pipe from cylinder block.
23.
Remove oil drain hose.
24.
Remove water pipe cylinder head clamp bolt.
25.
Remove water hoses.
26.
Remove turbocharger.
27.
Reverse procedure to install.
