LOW POWER/BLACK EXHAUST SMOKE
(SEAL FENDER OPENING AND REPLACE AIR CLEANER ELEMENT)
MODELS:
1992-93 C/K TRUCKS WITH 6.5L TURBO DIESEL ENGINE (RPO L65)
CONDITION
Owners of some 1992-93 C/K trucks equipped with 6.5 diesel engine (RPO L65) may comment that the air cleaner element becomes plugged with dust.
The engine may have low power and/or black exhaust smoke on moderate throttle due to a restriction of air flow. This condition occurs primarily when
the truck is driven on unpaved roads.
CAUSE
It has been determined that the primary path for dust entering the induction system is through the hole created where the right side inner and outer fender
come together next to the soft bumper filler panel.
CORRECTION
To correct this condition, close the hole with silicone caulking, RTV, or any suitable material that will remain flexible and not fall out. Be sure the
sealing material is completely cured prior to driving the truck.
A revised air cleaner element (P/N 25099849) with a removable poly-wrap outer foam material has been released. When necessary, the foam can be
removed from the element. washed, dried. and reinstalled. If service to the new air cleaner is required, do not use high pressure air to clean the paper
element. Lightly tap it on a flat surface to shake loose excess dust prior to carefully reinstalling the poly-wrap cover.
