Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Power Steering Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in Cautions and Notices.
Important: Thoroughly clean the pump housing before removing the hoses.
1. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump in order to catch any escaping fluid.
2. If the vehicle has A/C, remove the A/C compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement in HVAC.
3. Remove the power steering reservoir outlet hose (4) from the pump.
4. Remove the reservoir (3) with the outlet hose (4). Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (1.6L) or Remote Power Steering
Fluid Reservoir Replacement (2.OL).
5. Remove the fitting from the pump and from the power steering gear inlet hose.
6. Remove the 2 gaskets and the power steering gear inlet hose from the pump.
7. Disconnect the connector from the power steering pressure switch.
8. Remove the power steering pump drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine.
9. Remove the 2 bolts from the power steering pump.
10. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Secure the power steering pump to the bracket with the 2 bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18.5 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the connector to the power steering pressure switch.
Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses Without Twists or Bends Notice in Cautions and Notices.
4. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump.
5. Secure the hose to the pump with the 2 gaskets and the hose fitting.

Tighten the fitting to 60 Nm (43.5 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the reservoir (3) with the reservoir outlet hose (4). Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (1.6L) or Remote Power
Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (2. OL).
