Clutch Release Bearing: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the manual transmission assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
Important: DO NOT clean the clutch release bearing with a degreaser or solvents. Cleaning the clutch release bearing with a degreaser or solvents
will damage the bearing seals. Use a clean, dry solvent-free cloth.
2. Remove the clutch release Bearing (2) from the input shaft.
3. Remove the clutch release shaft fork (1).
4. Clean the clutch release bearing (2) with a clean, dry solvent-free cloth.
5. Inspect the clutch release bearing (2) for external damage and smooth rotation. If external damage exists or the bearing does not operate smoothly,
replace the clutch release bearing.
Installation Procedure
1. Apply a thin coat of wheel bearing lubricant GM P/N 1051344, or the equivalent, to the transmission input shaft.
2. Install the clutch release shaft fork (1) into the transmission housing; secure the clutch release bearing (2) to the clutch release shaft fork (1).
3. Install the manual transmission assembly into the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
