File In Section: 10 - Body
Bulletin No.: 83-15-01

Subject:
Lack of Power After a Period of Sustained Driving in Light Snow (Install Snow Intrusion Kit)
Models:
1996-97 Geo Tracker
1998 Chevrolet Tracker
Condition
Some customers may comment on poor performance or lack of power after a period of sustained driving in light snow.
Cause
The condition may be due to light snow entering the air cleaner through the induction system. Heavy snow is unlikely to enter, as it is too heavy to
negotiate the various turns of the air path. Usually, continuous driving at highway speeds is required to cause enough snow accumulation to interfere with
the intake of air to the engine. Shorter trips allow the snow to melt while the vehicle is parked. Therefore, suspect vehicles should have the air cleaner
inspected for snow as soon as possible. If the vehicle is allowed to sit for a prolonged period of time, the snow will melt, thus resulting in a diagnosis of
no trouble found.
