Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection

A fuel system pressure test is a part of several diagnostic tables and symptoms checks. In order to perform this test follow the procedure described below.

Tools Required

-

J-34730-1A, Fuel pressure gauge.

-

J-41041, Fuel pressure gauge adapter.

Gauge Installation Procedure

1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release.

2. Remove the fuel plug bolt (2) from the fuel rail (1).

3. Install the J-41041 fuel pressure gauge adapter (2) to fuel rail (4).
4. Install the J-34730-1A fuel pressure gauge (3) to the J-41041 fuel pressure gauge adapter (2).
5. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
6. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
7. Idle the engine at the normal operating temperature.
8. Check the fuel pressure as follows:

-

210-260 kPa (30-37 psi) with the engine idling.

-

250-300 kPa (36-43 psi) the engine is not running and the ignition switch is ON - FUEL PUMP IS RUNNING.

Fuel pressure should hold at or above 180 kPa (26 psi) within one minute of the engine not running while the ignition switch is ON - FUEL
PUMP IS NOT RUNNING.

9. If the fuel pressure is not within the correct specifications, refer to Fuel System Diagnosis.

Gauge Removal Procedure

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect the J-34730-1A fuel pressure gauge from the J-41041 fuel pressure gauge adapter. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining

fuel that may leak.

3. Disconnect the J-41041 fuel pressure gauge adapter from the fuel rail. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel that may leak.
4. Install the fuel rail plug bolt onto the fuel rail and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
5. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
6. Turn ON the ignition in order to pressurize the fuel system.
7. Turn OFF the ignition.
8. Check for any fuel leaks and repair as necessary.
