Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
2. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
3. Remove the flywheel or flex plate from the crankshaft.
4. Remove the two bolts (3) and the CKP sensor wire harness clips or shield.
5. Remove the one bolt (4) securing the CKP sensor to the engine block (5).
6. Remove the CKP sensor (1) and wire harness (2) from the vehicle.
7. Inspect the CKP sensor signal rotor for damaged or missing teeth through the CKP sensor opening.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE:  Do not pinch or damage the CKP sensor wire harness between the engine block and transmission during the transmission installation.
Observe that the CKP sensor wire harness remains properly located in the channel provided at the rear of the engine block during the installation.

1. Lubricate the CKP sensor O-ring with clean engine oil.
2. Install the CKP sensor (1) to the engine block (5).

NOTE:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Secure the CKP sensor (1) to the engine block with the one bolt (4).

Tighten
Tighten the CKP sensor bolt to 6 N.m (54 lb in).

4. Secure the CKP sensor wire harness to the engine block with the clips or shield and two bolts (3).
5. Install the crankshaft flywheel or flex plate.
6. Install the transmission.
7. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
