Metal Stud May Puncture Carpeting

Condition
A metal stud may puncture the carpeting near the parking brake assembly on some of the above listed vehicles. The stud retains the upper end of a plastic
panel and is located under the carpet on the left front wheelhouse about 125.0 mm to 150.0 mm (5.0 to 6.0 in.) from the top edge of the carpet.
Correction
Access and cut off the stud using the following procedure.
1.
Carefully pull the carpet away from the left cowl side trim panel and locate the stud that retains the upper end of the plastic panel.
2.
Make sure that the panel is properly secured with the retainers on the studs.
Caution:
Approved safety glasses and gloves should be worn when performing this procedure to reduce the chance of personal injury.
3.
Cut the stud off at the top of the retaining nut. Due to the hardness of the stud, use a cut-off wheel, small die grinder or other suitable tool. Remove
any remaining burrs.
4.
Reposition carpet properly at the cowl side trim panel.
Important:
If the carpet assembly is being replaced for any reason, make sure to trim the stud length prior to carpet installation.
