Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair
Removal
1.
Remove timing belt as outlined under `Timing Belt.''
2.
Hold camshaft sprocket with 1 7/16 inch box wrench to loosen and remove sprocket bolt and washer. To remove bolt with engine in vehicle, it
may be necessary to lift that side of the engine to gain access for bolt removal.
3.
Remove camshaft sprocket from camshaft. Each sprocket had a ``D'' shaped hole that allows it to rotate several degrees in each direction on its
shaft. This design must be timed with the engine to ensure proper engine performance. Refer to ``Camshaft & Timing Belt Installation & Timing''
for sprocket installation procedure.
