Clutch Slave Cylinder: Description and Operation
RELEASE BEARING/SLAVE CYLINDER
DESCRIPTION
The clutch release bearing is integrated with the clutch slave cylinder for smooth operation. By eliminating the clutch release fork, less effort is
required to release the clutch. Even pressure application to the release bearing increases the life of the bearing.
OPERATION
The release bearing is operated by a slave cylinder in the clutch housing. The slave cylinder force causes the release bearing to move into contact with
the diaphragm spring. As additional force is applied, the bearing presses the diaphragm spring fingers inward on the fulcrums. This action moves the
pressure plate rearward relieving clamping force on the clutch disc. Releasing pedal pressure removes clutch hydraulic pressure. The release bearing
then moves away from the diaphragm spring which allows the pressure plate to exert clamping force on the clutch disc.
