This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin #18-22-85 which should be removed from your files. The following changes have been made:
^
One new part number throttle position sensor common to both EFI and Turbo.
^
New sensor package will no longer include an "O" ring. The sensor must be installed without an "O" ring.
^
On EFI vehicles only, sensor position will be inverted 180~.
^
New throttle position sensor has an improved internal lubricant to resist contamination.
^
Includes 1986 turbocharged vehicles - 1986 EFT vehicles are not involved.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
^
Power loss/limit lamp may come on and induce fault code 24 into logic module memory.
^
Intermittent erratic idle and/or sag on acceleration.
DIAGNOSIS
To be sure as to what actually is causing either of the above conditions, use the appropriate Driveability Test Procedure.
Since the failure of the throttle position sensor is intermittent, the sensor may show okay when using the Driveability Test Procedure and the procedure
may indicate the logic module requires replacement. Because this is an intermittent problem. DO NOT REPLACE THE LOGIC MODULE. Instead,
connect a voltmeter to ground and:
^
1984 models - PIN 2-5 of logic module
^
1985-86 models - PIN 2-21 of logic module
Turn key to "ON" position. Voltmeter should read:
^
1 volt +/- .5 volt at closed throttle
^
At least 3-1/2 volts at wide open throttle
If voltage is not to specification or if drive procedure indicates logic module replacement, follow the repair procedure below to replace the throttle
position sensor.
