SYMPTON/CONDITION
After starting the vehicle, there is no drive or reverse for an abnormally long period of time (5 seconds or longer), or until shifting gears, or until the
engine is raced. This condition is most likely to occur after a hot soak of approximately one hours. It may also occur after an overnight soak. It is not
always repeatable.
DIAGNOSIS
Test the transaxle for engagement into drive and/or reverse after a hot soak. If there is no engagement for an abnormally long period of time (5 seconds
or longer), or until shifting gears or until the engine is raced, and if subsequent operation is normal, do the following repair.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
The above condition(s) can be caused by excessive front pump rotor clearance. Replacement of the front pump is necessary to correct this condition.
1.
Remove the transaxle per the appropriate 1986 service manual instruction.
2.
Remove the front pump assembly and check the rotor side clearance.
NOTE:
THE MOST ACCURATE METHOD TO CHECK ROTOR CLEARANCE IS BY USING THE PLASTI-GAUGE
METHOD AS FOLLOWS:
a.
Remove reaction shaft support from front pump housing.
